The challenge

Public data was technically available, but users struggled to understand its meaning, origin, and relevance. Information was fragmented across different web portals, difficult to navigate, and written in technical language, limiting trust and real-world usage.

Our approach

Reimagine the platform to make public data more accessible, understandable, and trustworthy, combining scalable architecture, a unified design system, user-centered design, and compelling data storytelling.

What we delivered

A platform evolution that improved public access to data, strengthened accessibility, and created a more scalable foundation for future growth.

Accessible data visualizations improved understanding

We transformed complex datasets into clear, narrative-driven content pages that were easier to explore and understand. Low-complexity charts were used to support clear data storytelling, leveraging the open-source Chart.js library for its built-in accessibility features and readability.

Creating an ecosystem for long-term sustainability

Integration with dados.gov.pt enabled automated data ingestion, improving consistency and reducing manual updates. The use of Squidex provided a flexible content layer, supporting structured content management and easier scalability. The adoption of the Ágora Design System ensured consistency and reuse, simplifying development and accelerating delivery.
